CHO YOONSEUNG

A világszínvonalú jazzművészként emlegetett Cho Yoonseung jazz-zongorista 1973-ban született Szöulban. Édesapja, Cho Sangkook – első generációs koreai jazzdobos – hatása alatt nőtt fel. 1986-ban édesapjával együtt Dél-Amerikába, Argentínába emigrált, ahol gyermekkorát töltötte, és ahol a dél-amerikai zene különféle műfajait sajátította el. Első fellépésére 1988-ban a Teatro San Martinban került sor, ezt követően a Teatro Cervantesben játszott, majd középiskolásként élő produkcióval szerepelt Julio Kags Radio Tango című műsorában.

1989-től klasszikus zenei tanulmányokat folytatott a Buenos Aires-i Nemzeti Zeneakadémián, és tovább képezte magát Inés Gómez Carrillo vezetésével, aki Argentína egyik kiemelkedő klasszikus zongoristája és zeneszerzője, valamint Arthur Rubinstein tanítványa volt.

Később ösztöndíjjal tanult az Egyesült Államokban a Berklee College of Music, majd a New England Conservatory intézményeiben, ahol Hal Crook, Paul Schmeling és Kenny Werner irányítása mellett a klasszikus és a jazz határterületeit átívelő elit képzésben vett részt. A világon mindössze hét diákkal együtt bekerült a Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz teljes ösztöndíjas hallgatói közé – ő volt az első ázsiai, akit erre kiválasztottak.

Nyolc éven át, 2010-ig a kaliforniai Hollywoodban működő Musicians Institute professzoraként dolgozott. Ebben az időszakban a Ron King Big Band zongoristájaként is aktív volt, és számos országban lépett fel többek között a New York Voices együttessel, Gary Novakkal, Cathy Segal Garciával, Laura Fygivel, Eric Benét-tel és Renée Olsteaddel.

Első albumát, a Jazz Korea című lemezt 2000-ben készítette Kendrick Scott, Billy Pierce, Jerry Bergonzi és az akkori Grammy-jelölt jazzénekes, Donna McElroy közreműködésével. Jazzalbumai – mint például a Latin Corea, Bach Renovation, Bohemian, Out to Sea – mellett széleskörűen tevékenykedik: K-pop előadók számára komponál, hangszerel, producerként és fesztivál zenei igazgatóként dolgozik, valamint számos műfajban készít zenekari hangszereléseket. CHO YOONSEUNG

Jazz pianist Cho Yoonseung, who is always nicknamed a world-class jazz artist, was born in Seoul in 1973 and grew up under the influence of his father Cho Sangkook, a first-generation jazz drummer. He immigrated to Argentina in South America in 1986 with his father, and he spent his childhood in Argentina and grew up learning various genres of South American music. He got the first performance stage at Teatro San Martin in 1988, and next at Teatro Cervantes, and at his high school, he appeared on the Radio Tango program hosted by Julio Kags, with a live performance. Since 1989, he took classic classical lessons at the Conservatorio Nacional of the National Conservatory of Music in Buenos Aires “Carlos López Buchardo” and continued to study with the Argentinian top classical pianist and composer Inés Gómez Carrillo, who was mentored by Arthur Runbinstein. He studied at the Berklee College of Music and the New England Conservatory in the U.S.A. as a scholarship student, and took an elite course that crosses classical and jazz while learning from Hal Crook, Paul Schmeling, and Kenny Werner and was the first Asian full scholarship student of selected only 7 students in the world of ‘Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz in USA’.

He served as a professor at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California for eight years until 2010. At that time, he was active as a pianist for the Ron King Big Band band, and participated in performances and festivals in many countries including Asia with New York Voice, Gary Novak, Cathy Sigal Garcia, Laura Fygi, Eric Benet, and Renee Olstead.

In the album <Jazz Korea> in 2000, he completed his first album work with Kendrick Scott, Billy Pierce, Jerry Bergonzi and the Grammy nominated jazz singer Donna McElroy at the time. In addition to jazz such as <Latin Corea>, <Bach Renovation> <Bohemian>, <Out to Sea>, he is a Korean K-pop artist, a composer, an arranger, a producer, a festival music director, and an Orchestration arranger of various genres of music. Currently he is working as professor at Korea Art Institute.
